About Us
Our Mission
Our mission is to provide college scholarships to needy Italian-American students in Clark County with academic abilities; assist Italian-American families or individuals with personal hardships, and continuously promote a positive image of Italian-Americans.
Formed in 1983, the society has awarded over 450 scholarships and awards, totaling nearly $750,000 in funds awarded.
The Annual Scholarship Banquet honoring students and their parents is held each April. Throughout the year, there are monthly membership dinner meetings featuring interesting guest speakers. Meetings are held at various locations for the convenience of members and guests.
The Columbus Day Ball, sponsored by the Augustus Society, honors an Augustan of the Year.
The Christmas party for members, their children, grandchildren, guests and their children, is another special event.
If you are interested in attending one of our membership dinners as our guest or have any questions, call us at 407-1380.
Our Funding
We are a self funded charity organization. This means that the vast majority of our funding comes from the dues our members contribute to the organization. In addition, we do receive some funding from charitable donations made by honorary members and those that are not members but want to help us meet our mission by increasing our scholarship grants or our grants to those in need.
Because we are funded primarily with membership dues, it is important for us to build our membership to be able to give away more scholarships and help more people in need.
Our Organization
We are an all volunteer organization. Our board members, officers, committee chairs and committee members receive no compensation for their time and work. Everything we do, is done through the generous donation of time, effort and often materials from our members.
We are oganized by having a board of directors consisting of 9 elected members that set the general policies and goals of the organization. Additionally, we have a president, vice president, secretar and treasurer that act as officers of the organization to govern the operation of the organization. Finally, and most importantly, we have committees to execute the operations of the organization. It is the volunteers on the committees that makes it possible for us to do our good work.
